Chopin en route

a narrated concert restaging Frédéric Chopin’s performance given in Manchester on 28 August 1848

Chopin en route offered a musical and narrative journey tracing the extraordinary life and travels of Frédéric Chopin — a composer whose delicate genius was shaped by movement, longing, and the search for belonging. His was a life in perpetual motion: from the serene landscapes of his native Poland, through the vibrant musical capitals of Berlin and Vienna, to the artistic salons of Paris and, finally, to the dignified hospitality of Scotland.

This performance, combining live narration and piano, evokes not only the music but also the spirit of the Great Romantic as he journeyed through life and art. Through the remarkable artistry of Anna Dębowska and the narration of Marcin Jaroszek, we revisit the concert Chopin himself gave on 28 August 1848 at the Gentlemen’s Concert Hall in Manchester — part of his celebrated British tour arranged by his devoted pupil and benefactor, Jane Stirling.

Presented in the evocative setting of Low Parks Museum, near what used to be Hamilton Palace, the ancestral home of the Dukes of Hamilton, this event forms part of the continuing celebration of the Jane Stirling Project — a tribute to the enduring connections between Chopin and Scotland.
